about the run

Our run philosophy is very simple. We are a volunteer-run event that raises funds to support cancer-care programs and organizations across the Niagara Region.

Your questions, ideas, and thoughts are always welcome.

The very first Rankin Cancer Run took place in May 2006.

The idea for the Run came from a group of local volunteers who, at the time, were working for a national charitable organization.

Through this work, they became aware of the tremendous need for cancer-care funding in the Niagara Region and decided it was time to start a local event.

The next order of business was to secure a Title Sponsor.

On the morning of October 6th, 2004, they reached out to Tom Rankin of Rankin Construction to ask if he would be interested in becoming Title Sponsor. Tom’s immediate commitment made a hope and a dream come true and was just another shining example of the endless good the Rankin Family has done and continues to do throughout our community.

While the Run was not held in 2020 or 2021 due to the national pandemic, it resumed as a virtual event in 2022. The full results from the 2023 Run can be found here.
